Alpine Linux is a Linux distribution based on musl and Busy Box, designed for security, simplicity, and resource efficiency. It is a community developed operating system designed for routers, firewalls, VPNs, VoIP boxes and servers. It was designed with security in mind, It has proactive security features like PaX and SSP that prevent security holes in the software to be exploited. The C library used is musl and the base tools are all in BusyBox. Those are normally found in embedded systems and are smaller than the tools found in GNU/Linux systems.
Alpine uses its own package manager called, apk-tools. Don’t confuse it with Android’s .apk format. Here APK stands for Alpine Package Keeper. Alpine has been using “apk-tools” and “.apk” before Google bought Android
Alpine Linux in its true sense was created by technical people for technical people. Its target has always been technical people who can fix things themselves and have the technical skills to contribute back
